Preparing for the Tree Planting
The Red House tractor has been busy working down on the ings by the River Ouse preparing the field for the Tree Planting Day this weekend. It involved topping the rough pasture to aid the planting but getting the large machinery there proved a problem. Eventually the old, small topper was brought back into service and it has done a fine job.
The project is being part funded by the MOREwoods scheme of the Woodland Trust and will involve initially planting 1000 trees and shrubs in the far end of the Ings Field and then a further 4000 trees going into the larger part of the field. In the future this will provide a beautiful wildlife habitat with clearings and paths covering 11 acres, all with public access. The management of the woodland will also generate firewood with a view for the Estate to develop self-sufficient biomass heating.
