Archaeological Plumbing
The long term project to re-lay the stone sets in the yard outside Moat Cottage (see original picture) has continued in recent days. As usual, when making repairs at Red House, one can get sidetracked into performing other unforeseen improvements. In an attempt to remove a redundant inspection chamber, much very old copper pipework was discovered in a spaghetti-like network under the yard. Feeling unable to resurface the yard without sorting this out first, we have just spent a couple of days replacing the copper with plastic and removing all the unnecessary pipes. Simon Casterton is pictured on his knees in the trench checking the final connection for the supply to Moat Cottage North. All trenches have now been backfilled and the real job of set laying is back underway.
