The Hay Tea
The gathering of the hay from the grounds in front of the Main Building took place in mid July, a week before the summer term ended. It was celebrated with a tea served outside and followed by the traditions of "Dormitory Nests" and the more conventional game of "Grandmother's Steps" for the younger children before they went inside for baths and bed. The game of Dormitory Nests was referred to by the boys as "The Hay Fight" and involved the gathering of as much hay around each team as possible, the winner being the team with the most.
