Celebrating Red House Hedges
Following a recently published survey of the 390,000km of hedgerows of the UK, it seemed appropriate to take stock of the work we have done at Red House on the 3km of field hedging we now have. In the last 15 years we have planted nearly 700m of new hedge around the fields, a 33% increase, and improved existing hedges with new planting in gaps. We have a mixed approach to their management, in some fields we trim them annually whereas, in others, we let them grow. The taller hedges provide shelter for horses and result in greater flowering and berry production.
