The Browns of Moat Cottage
The Browns lived in the river end of The Cottage (now known as Moat Cottage North) and this is a picture of the family standing outside their front door. David Brown (left in the photo) was probably the "odd job" man at Red House, a very important role on the school as it was almost entirely self sufficient, although he had previously been a sign writer and a merchant seaman. On his left is his wife, Laura Brown, then their boys, Donald and Lawrence. Behind Lawrence is possibly his grandmother Mrs Blakeston, who may have been a cook at the school. The lady on the right is probably Flora Godfrey, wife of the school chauffeur. The identity of the young girl is not certain.
Thanks to Stephen Brown (son of Donald) for the names and information
