Dartmoor Dyeing
The sheep are all sheared and fleeces are available for processing! This means much action in Moat Cottage where our resident spinning and weaving enthusiast lives. These samples have been put through the Dartmoor dyeing process where 3 pots of primary (red, yellow and blue) colour dyes are set up and a third of the fleece is put in each. These are then split again into thirds and one part of the red placed in the yellow and one part in the blue. The same is done with the fleece from the yellow and blue pots. A third stage is to put the mixed colours into the pots they have not yet been in. The result is 15 different coloured samples. The order of the dyeing affects the final colour.
