The Garden Wall (Part 3)
Restoration work on the 17th century Garden Wall is progressing well this summer. About 40 metres of the copings have now been completed with repairs to the facings being carried out in parallel. Several problems have arisen as the job has unfolded. Not only have we had to minimise the impact on the local wildlife, which has used the wall for nesting, but also we have had to decide how much of the wall to actually repair. Our main objective has been to maintain the old "character" of the wall when, in fact, a simpler solution may have been to take down large sections and rebuild it.
