Christmas Flood 2015
Alastair Dent canoes out to the Red House pontoons which are now about 100 metres from the water's edge after the River Ouse flooded on Boxing Day. He was checking all was ship-shape out there and also collecting a canoe to be lent to some friends who were trapped by flooding in their first floor flat in York. After 24 hours of heavy rain on Christmas Day, the river rose to over 7 metres above its normal level and peaked in the early hours of Monday morning.
The flooding caused only minor inconvenience at Red House with the usual loss of grazing, water across the drive and a small matter of a pump needing to be raised 30cm to avoid the water.
