Not Our Water!
With news of heavy rain and flooding to the west and north of us, it was only a matter of time before the River Ouse flooded for the second time in 2 weeks. This is despite the fact that we have had virtually no rain over the weekend. We must thank the Cumbrian Mountains and the Pennines for catching the worst of it and creating a "rainshadow effect" for us. We are expecting the waters to peak at about midday on Monday with the level close to 6 metres above normal. In the picture, which was taken from the mound in the Moat Field, Moat Cottage stands defiantly above the water which has filled the moat, ducker pond and all the fields next to the river.
