The Floods
We have had our first flood for over 18 months. The pontoons and boats were raised above the top of the river bank and the new fence partly submerged. The sound of the water flowing over the levée into the wood ditch is always strange to the ears as we don't often hear rushing water at Red House. The usual rearrangement of grazing has taken place as horses have been moved from the ings fields to higher ground and they have the excitement of being in a new field. A lot of wildlife was spotted on the move as well, with moles and voles making their escape from the water using highlands, fences or even just swimming for safety. The waters peaked at about 5.20 metres.
