Apple Press Rehearsal
This is turning out to be a memorable autumn. Not only is the weather generally glorious but the crops of elderberries, sloe berries, brambles and apples are the best for years, which is why we are very fortunate that the village of Moor Monkton has just purchased an apple juicing kit. On the 17th of October we plan to have a village apple juicing day so, this weekend, we put the equipment through its paces in front of the Main House to see how everything worked. The picture shows Ian Pickering, our village apple juicing consultant, feeding apples into the yellow pulping mill. The green press is already full of pulp which has been pressed into the orange buckets. An expectant line of juice testers waits beyond.
After an hour of work we had made 22 litres of juice (not counting all the juice that was tasted as it came out of the press) and 25 litres of cider. The cider will be ready for the Red House hay making next year.
