Skippy
An intriguing sight has appeared in the Ings Field next to the new woodland planting. The old launch, Skippy, that was moored on the river at Redhouse Landing and, more recently kept in the farm yard, has been moved here so she can be dismantled. She first came to Red House 25 years ago when Richard Hill spotted her hanging from the davits of a cable laying vessel in Goole. She had spent time in the Pacific Ocean as the launch for this vessel, helping to set anchors and perform surface work. She was about to be scrapped but Richard brought her back, fitted a new engine and, for many years, used her as a launch for his vessels, Santarino and Rachel II. She worked on the Ouse for over 15 years until she was brought on land for renovation. However this has proved too difficult so her fate is sealed.
STOP PRESS - Skippy has been rescued! After seeing her being towed off to the Ings Field, Gordon Hall from Skipbridge Farm saw her potential as a feature for his pond and has taken her there.
