Tree Delivery
On Sunday the 8th of March we had our second tree planting day as we continue to expand the new woodland on the ings fields. Peter Marshall and Blue brought the thousand trees down to the field using their cart, following the tractor and trailor which had brought the stakes, tubes, tools and people. It was a terrific day's work, in which the weather varied from glorious sun to horizontal rain, with about 10 people planting at any one time from 9am to 4pm. We managed to get almost 700 of the oak, maple, poplar, alder, mountain ash trees in the ground. The rest will be planted over the week by estate staff and volunteers. Thank you to everyone who took part and to the Woodland Trust for their financial support.
A special mention must go to Jan Gordon (aged 7) who worked for over 5 hours and was personally involved in the planting of over 120 trees, mainly oaks, which are his favourite.
All 1000 trees and shrubs were finally planted by Wednesday morning. We have also just completed a 160 metre hedge at the top of the Deer Park which involved planting over 700 hawthorns.
