Hedge Laying
Many of the hedges at Red House are left to grow so that they provide shelter for the horses and a better habitat for wild birds. However, this does mean that some long term maintenance is periodically needed as they begin to thin out. Laying the hedge is the best solution, to encourage the hedge to regenerate while providing the ultimate barrier to horses wishing to expand their grazing area. The picture shows Simon Casterton working his way along the hedge in the Deer Park which was planted 12 years ago and has received little attention since.
