Getting the hay in.
This year's hay crop is finally in the barn after 3 weeks of cutting, turning, rowing and baling. This is the second year in recent history that Red House has cropped its own hay and it proved to be a bumper harvest with over 1200 bales brought in. As usual the operation is a juggling act with the British weather and, after a dry start, the rains came and interfered with the crop in the Hill Field. However last week's hot spell dried everything out and the barn is now full with enough hay for the winter.
Pictured are Jan Gordon (6) and his Dad, Robin, at the top of the stack with all the bales safely stored.
