Le Tour at Moor Monkton
The build up took months, road closures lasted for hours and the cycle race passed the A59 crossroads at Moor Monkton in seconds but the event was quite spectacular. Nearly everyone at Red House had walked, cycled or driven up the lane and joined the throng lining the sides of the A59 road. By 9am the atmosphere was party like as vehicles began passing, at 11am helicopters buzzed overhead followed by a flypast of Lancaster bomber and Spitfire fighter with engines booming across the sky. Finally a cavalcade of cars and bikes appeared at the Turnbridge corner and, almost before we knew what was happening, there was a huge cheer from the crowd and the bikes silently shot past. Then it was over and we dispersed to various barbecues around the village.
