Bringing in the Hay (1938)
This picture shows the hay crop being stacked between the old oak trees and the big barn in 1938. The photo was given to Red House by Robin Godfrey whose father, Reg, worked at Red House during the 1930's. Reg was the school chauffeur, handyman and woodwork teacher and came to Red House in 1931. He was married in 1938 to Flora Cross and they lived in Moat Cottage for a while. Unfortunately Flora found life at Red House a bit too quiet, wives of school employees were not expected to be involved in school life, and they soon moved on. Reg, however, would almost certainly have been in involved in the hay making as job descriptions were (and sometimes still are) a little vague at Red House.
