Grazing in the Hill Field
We have had nearly two weeks without any significant rainfall, the longest dry period since March last year, and the sounds around Red House have a springlike quality to them. The fields have had a tough time over the winter and there are still patches of lying water which have been with us for months. The estate staff have been working hard on keeping the water flowing by clearing drains and digging out ditches. Despite all this the Hill Field, which provides a lot of the winter grazing for the horses, has stood up well to the wet weather as the picture shows. It has just been given a roll to take out the worst of the hoof marks and the warmth of the sun will soon get the grass growing again.
