The Flood
The River Ouse flooded fairly spectacularly last Wednesday after 75mm of rain had fallen on Red House in the previous 7 days. It proved to be the worst flood here since November 2000 when the water level was about 150mm higher. The Estate was not too badly affected with only 3 grazing fields being inundated and water came across the drive making passage in and out of the Estate possible but with extreme care. The caravan site was open as usual and the water has receded over the weekend.
The picture shows the view across the Moat Field over to the village of Beningbrough just before the river reached its peak. The distance is half a kilometre and beneath the waters lie the moat, ducker pond, wood drain, Redhouse Ings reservoir and the River Ouse.
