Satin

Satin was a very special mare who first came to the Red House Wednesday evening show jumping in 1994, rising 9 years and never having seen a show jumping pole in her life before. After much encouragement and patience she accomplished a clear round of trotting poles, with whoops and cheers on completion. That was her starting point, where she fell in love with jumping, and every week at Red House she got better and better. Satin proved to be a natural, a small cob who could out jump many larger horses, she soon passed through the novice rounds, both show jumping and cross country and was a regular feature at competitions throughout the county.

Regularly winning the open show jumping at Red House, Satin had an enjoyable and successful career. However, after injury, her competing was interrupted for 6 years. Afterwards she made a return to Red House in 2009 achieving 2nd and 3rd placings in the Novice Class aged 24 (pictured), proving herself to be the Peter Pan of the horseworld.

Sadly in August 2011, aged 26, Satin developed colic and she was put to sleep in her field, surrounded by those who loved her, in sight of her beloved jumps.

Red House and the Gordons were key in Satin's jumping career and so, in her memory, the Satin Memorial Shield, is to be awarded annually for the most improved horse/pony and rider combination of the summer.
