C. C. Lemprière
About 4 months ago an email arrived from Andrew Cudbertson who was researching the history of Hull Rugby Club and, in particular, the life of a certain Charles Lemprière, captain of the club in the 1890's. He wanted to know if it was the same Lemprière who founded Red House School in 1902. A visit was arranged and all the relevant archive material from the house library was laid out for study. Within 10 minutes the connection had been made, when a tribute to Lemprière's life was discovered in the school magazine from 1939 describing his time as a rugby player. Andrew wrote an article of Lemprière's career for Rugby League World magazine and it has just been published in the March edition. We have very kindly been given a copy of the article which is now available on this web site via this link.
