A Walk along the River Ouse
After a wet Sunday, when 10mm of rain fell on Red House, Monday dawned brightly with a brisk, drying wind - the perfect weather for an early morning walk along the river. Gulls and buzzards were gliding in the clear skies overhead and the blue was reflected in the ruffled waters of the river. The smaller birds were keeping out of the wind in the hawthorn and willows in the more shaded spots but they were still interested in the doings of a solitary walker. Out in the open Ings Fields there were plenty of horses to keep a walker company as they followed you along the bridleway. Turning inland towards Redhouse Wood the crows and gulls were busy picking over the freshly sown fields. Returning to Red House there was a crackling log fire waiting, a reminder that spring is still not quite here.
