A Waxing Moon
After a few days of overcast, damp weather we were treated to a glorious Sunday when autumn showed its best colours. The leaves still on the sycamores and oaks were a beautiful gold and the late afternoon produced a captivating moon rise followed soon after by Jupiter. The estate telescope was set up on the Oval and passers by were able to look at the moon in more detail and see the amazing relief of its mountains and craters. Particularly prominent on the photograph is the Tycho crater with its ray system radiating out from its centre. Those willing to bear the chilly evening later on were able to see Jupiter and its 4 major moons in stunning detail. Annoyingly it was too damp to take photographs!
