A Temporary Indoor Garden
Back in March this year, a team of landscapers set to work in one of the barns at Red House to build a garden. It took them about six weeks of building, taking down and rebuilding in order to perfect the design. The idea was to include a variety of landscaping skills while reflecting the landscape and natural building materials of Yorkshire. The garden was designed by staff at Askham Bryan College in preparation for the World Skills Competition in London in 2011. Teams from around the world will be competing at ExCeL London between the 5th and 8th of October 2011. There they will all be building the same garden and points will be awarded for, among other things, accuracy, working methods and skill. There will be competitions in other disciplines at the event ranging from stonemasonry to beauty therapy.
