Red House Harvest
Harking back to the days when Red House would have been self sufficient in its fruit and vegetables with its large kitchen garden and extensive apple and plum orchards, this display in the chapel shows examples of some of this year's harvest. Under the direction of Ian Hartley a new kitchen garden was started up this spring on the western side of the peach wall. Everyone on the estate has had a chance to benefit after a "surplus stock" stall was set up with produce free to take away. Particular successes this year were the raspberries, tomatoes, maize, potatoes and runner beans - the plum and apple crops were also excellent.
Shortly after this photo was taken the display was taken down to provide ingredients for last Monday's lunch for the estate workers.
