A Temporary Spring
The heavy rains at the beginning of last week proved too much for some of the land drains around the estate. One in the the Moat Field had such a weight of water above it from the fish ponds that the water forced its way through the soil and burst up through the turf forming a spring. The surrounding fields were eventually covered by interlinking pools which flowed quickly off into the river. Surprisingly the River Ouse did not flood badly but remained high all last week. Now, after a few dry days, all is back to normal. |
