The Development of the Main Building

The Main Building dates from the early seventeenth century and has undergone a facelift and had many additions over the years. The plan below shows how the building grew and looked at the end of 2000.

After the school closed the first action taken was to repair the leaking parts of the roof. This was completed in May 2002.

Working on the Vavasour and Montrose roofs (April 2002)

In March 2003 we received planning permission to convert the main building into 4 residential appartments. Due to the development of the building in the past, it was easy to divide it into 4 separate units - Red House, Rupert House, Montrose House and Vavasour House. The names of the latter three reflect the names of the dormitories that were in that part of the building. The flat roof over the central courtyard was taken down in April 2003 and internal work began in August 2003.

Below is a proposed plan of the main building with each part marked on it.
